I have 2 remington senderos .220 swift, 338 rum, and a savage .204. How do i break in these rifles without damgageing the barrels? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

If it was me doing it . . .

Clean them all up first to get the factory crap out.
Fire one shot and clean until you get no Cu.
At that point, I used IOSSO bore paste to "polish" the bore. I have since learned that it can be removed easier with isopropyl alcohol.
Then I fired two shots and cleaned till no Cu, then IOSSO.
Then I fired a 5 shot group (letting the barrel cool in the middle) and cleaned only to find almost no Cu. I finished the box of shells off with the same procedure.

I'll try to post the last 9 shots if I can get to a digital camera. I think the last 9 shots went into .690" at 100 yards.

Personally, I would shot every rifle then clean them all. I have the cleaning supplies to do that without much hassle. If you are planning to hunt with the RUM, do it first.

I hope thats not too confusing.

I almost forgot, get some Wipe-out too. Foam the bore and let it sit over-night. If its blue, you didn't get all the Cu out. It is a great product I use as a 'spell-check' to make sure I get all the Cu out.

I would have to say that breaking in a lilja match grade barrel is alot easier than breaking in a rough factory barrel. Factory fodder takes a lot more break in time than any match grade barrel, if you want to do it right.

I broke my 300 RSAUM Sendero in with 31 rounds, but used the last 9 of the box to shoot for kicks into a single group. I think using the IOSSO bore paste or JB's with Kroil will speed things up immensely. My barrel has a mirror finish now.

FWIW, my 270 Ruger has had around 200 rounds fired through it, but its accuracy sucks to be nice about it. The barrel has a couple tooling marks that are visible to the naked eye, well sort of. I have some of Tubb's FinalFinish to shoot through the gun. As this is my only .270 bore rifle, I plan on shooting all 50 bullets. If I had two rifles, I would shoot 25 in each as that seems to be all that is really "needed" but we shall see. I am loading some up for my Dad's 708 and 7RM, 25 for each. I can compare how they look before and after. I plan on shooting groups before and after the FinalFinish to compare how it shoots.
