Hi all I'm seeking information on higher BC. for 257 and 277 bullets. I'm trying to decide what route to take on a build. I'm trying to get a velocity above 3100 with a higher BC 130-140 grain bullet and I could go to 150 if necessary. I'm pretty familiar with what's available in a 6.5 caliber not so much in 257 or 277. I'm leaning towards the 257 weatherby cut with a custom reamer. Perhaps from west Texas ordinance with .210 free bore. I just don't know what's out there ln bullets that may fit my needs. Thank you all for any comments and suggestions. Tribb

Right now in 257 the only real options are Berger. They have 2 different LR bullets (133 and 135 I think) some say one is more available than the other but I've been able to find them both fairly easily.

The original 131 Ace is awesome but they are so far behind in backorders no one knows when they will be back in stock.

Not a 277 fan so no help there.

I have a recent .257 WBTY (SAAMI) build with 1:7" twist primarily built for the same weight class your future build but have not done load development yet. I have the following high BC bullets to try when I get the opportunity.

- 117 Cayuga (.580/.272) - https://patriotvalleyarms.com/flm-257-117gr-cayuga-hunting-bullets-50ct/
- 100 BD2 (.570/.292) - https://badlandsprecision.com/product/257-110gr-super-bulldozer-2/
- 131 BJ (.330) - https://blackjackbullets.com/about/?v=ed5e635ddcfb
- 133 Berger (.613/.315) - https://bergerbullets.com/product-category/rifle-bullets/hunting/?caliber=25-caliber

I also have a .270 AI 1:8" primarily built for the 165/175 Matrix VLD (no longer available) and now the Berger 170.

Good luck!

For 25 cal these

I'm really debating a 25sst or 25 creedmoor myself

For 277

All are gonna need a fast twist.

For my 270 win (1:8 twist) , I have both 170gr EOLs, 165gr ABLR, and some 165gr matrixs

Berger did great in improving their 25 caliber line with a couple of higher bc bullets over their long running 115 gr VLD Hunting bullet
make note of the 8 twist barrel requirement, I'd go min of 7.5 twist or even better, 7 twist in the smaller & slower velocity .25 cal cartridges

one other thing is that the 133 gr EH bullet has an open tip hollow point & the 135 gr LRHT has a "pointed" tip where the hollow point tip is partially closed via a tipping or pointing die, that's done to improve bc's somewhat,
Sierra have been doing that to their newer Match King line of bullets and the 131 gr Ace bullet from Blackjack is also pointed, the 131 gr Ace bullet is nothing more than a rebranded .257 caliber Sierra Match King, when you buy them in 500 pc bulk boxes from Blackjack, they send them to you in the original bulk Sierra box with a "Sierra 131 gr SMK" label on it ....

reason I mention the bullet "pointing"....
is that for hunting use you'll have better results with expansion with the open tip bullets vs the closed tip bullets... theoretically ....

Ditto what Charlie said.

I'm curious as to why you would want to reduce the freebore on a 257 Wby. Inherently that is what helps them be able to achieve the velocities they do and I've seen zero negative effects with a SAAMI chamber on my 257 Wby.
Just picked that up from information from another thread on here it's all still theoretical at the moment. Thank you for your input. Tribb

Whichever chambering you decide, make sure you have the minimum recommended barrel twist rate to optimize the stabilization of the bullet you will be using. Good luck!

For .277 bullets, running an 8 twist with the Badlands precision 140 Super Bull Dozer II is perfect. It has a .333 G7 bc, I have shot them out to 900 and change and that bc has worked for drops, so its nipping on the heels of the 170 EOL, but can be driven much, much faster. Out of a 19" barreled .270 Sherman, with the lighter load we are running 3030, and were able to hit 3100 at a top end load. It really is the best external ballistic performing bullet that I know of in a .277 bore.

For terminal performance reports, go to this thread. It starts out with the gen 1 bulldozers, and page 25 starts with the gen 2 bulldozers, which we are liking a little better -

Just an FYI .... The 270 cal 175 gr Tipped Game King (TGK) bullets are in stock at the Sierra Web store ... for how long ?

...

Midsouth has the 175TGK, 145 ELDXs and SST in stock. I have seen them pop up pretty often here and there. Really haven't had many problems finding any components for the 270WIN or 270WSM in the last year. With I could say the same for my 300s
