Help With Tikka T3 Bolt Handle Replacement

I've bought my first Tikka, a T3X A1 in 6.5CM and want to replace the factory bolt hand with one from Glades Armory.

I've watched two youtube videos, and the bolt shroud appears to easily rotate around and slip off.

Admittedly at 78 years my hand strength isn't what it used to be, but still....

Is there some particular "trick" or tip that I need to know in order to remove the plastic shroud without resorting to the amateur's standard gunsmithing tools: a hammer and a Dremel tool?

I just had mine apart to clean it up . it twisted easy , you shouldn't need any tools . if this doesn't get you going let me know , I'll pull mine apart again and maybe I can help you .

you turned the shroud the wrong way . I just did that to mine , to see what I had to do to get it back . I couldn't hold it by hand , so I put the bolt back into the rifle just past the bolt stop . I put the rifle in my holder I use for cleaning . I then could grip the shroud and get it to turn , looking at it from the rear , turn it clockwise . it will turn a little and go into a small notch . ( this is where you need to be to put the bolt back into the rifle when your finished ) . remove the bolt from the rifle and keep turning the shroud clockwise . the shroud will stop , and slide right off .

Thanks....I just can't generate enough force to turn it as directed. I'll take it to my local gun shop in the morning, and there's usually someone there who can handle it.

I"ve dealt with a lot of Remington and Savage bolts over the years, but this is my first Tikka.

George , it is a hard turn to get it out of the deep notch . one tip I have . be sure you put the handle in the bolt the correct way . it will go in either way . the bolt handle sweeps back slightly , and hangs down by the number 313 stamped in your bolt body . look at your picture you'll see what I mean .

Jim: at the expense of appearing to be dumb....or actually BEING dumber than usual.....I'm don't think I understand you when you say to make sure I put the bolt in "the correct way."

Is there more than one way for it to be inserted in the receiver?

George , no buddy , the bolt only goes in the receiver one way .

be sure to put the new handle in the bolt body the correct way . if you look at your picture , you'll see the number 313 stamped in the bolt body . your handle comes down beside that number , the handle also angles back slightly .

if you get the handle in wrong it will be flush by your number 313 , and slightly angle forward .

the handle fits into the bolt by a dove tail , it can be slid in from either side . if you slide it in from the wrong side it will be positioned like the ink pen in my picture .

Jim: progress.....I've gotten the bolt/shroud problem solved....

Using a allen wrench I can turn the rear part two clicks, but at neither position does the handle come loose. Maybe it's just in there two tight?

Here's a couple of photos of the bolt in two positions from the original....the firing pin doesn't slide out as they do in the youtube videos.

Suggetions?

there you go .


now turn the allen wrench counter clockwise until the square bolt piece , "cocking lug " is in the deep notch . just like your first picture . the allen wrench will get pinched in there . then just jiggle at the allen wrench and the bolt handle will slide out .
