My wife and I have given up on the possibilities of ever hunting Alaska or Alaska, so we're gonna attempt some less expensive, hopefully easier to accomplish hunts in the Lower 48.

Our thoughts are pigs/hogs and maybe a Javelina hunt.

So, some suggestions on who to contact for hog hunting. A hunt that's reasonably priced, with pretty high success rates. We realize that hog hunting on public ground is likely near impossible. Especially as, we're not as mobile as we were years ago.

As for Javelina, what state would you folks recommend for a DIY hunt, that doesn't require you to be an Olympic athlete to hunt? What state, area/region would you suggest for inexperienced, older folks?

Oh and, we're not "long range" hunters/shooters, so we'd like to limit our shots to around 300 yrds and under!

I guess it's time to spend a little of our kids inheritance! 😁

Thanks in advance! memtb

Take a serious look at hunting South Africa. You can do a 8 animal cull hunt over 5-7 days for WAY less than most hunts anywhere in Canada or the States. I went last time, just before Covid hit, me as hunter, one observer, 12 animals 10 days, total including return air et al, $8000 Canadian, so about $6,000 U.S..

Have done quite a bit of hunting all over the world. Wild Boar in Hungary is a great deal, as is hunting deer in Spain and England. Wild pig and Havelina in Texas or pigs in the Carolinas, even guided is very reasonable. You can DIY hunt pigs in California.

This site has a ton of good deals on it and they change weekly.

Thank You Dean2!

We actually discussed that just days ago, but our paranoia has pretty much eliminated any "out of country" hunts……except North, as in Canada. Even Canada is questionable 🙂 Alaska might still be doable, but I don't think that we can leave home long enough to make it a good vacation and a hunt…..same for Canada.

Essentially, if we can't drive with our 5th wheel for travel/sleeping ….it won't happen! memtb

Well, that link will still work great. You can put in Canada, U.S., Mexico and South America. Still lots of choices that you can drive to. That said, if you are paranoid about travelling in a place with as low as crime rate as Canada, then there probably is no place safe for you to go. Best of luck.

Higher crime number is worse.

Higer the number in the safety index the better.

We were going to post the same answer. SA is a TRIP OF A LIFETIME especially going as wife and husband. Dollar for Dollar you can't beat SA to a hunt in US.
memtb you and your wife will love it and talk about it the rest of your lives. Jill actually wanted to live over there in SA after our hunt. We were looking at buying a 2,500 acre Ranch for $250,000 close to where we hunted.

Where can you go in North America and see hundreds animals in one day????
There are plenty of references from LRH members on where to go.
PLUS the price when you can shoot 6-8-10 Plains game animals for $7K for the both of you. Get one Package for one of you and then take a few extra for the second person and a great price.
I see prices now that are the same as 15 years ago.
Depending on my health we will go back in 2026.

Good luck and go to SA for 8-10 Days for a trip of a lifetime.

Dean2, We carry anywhere we will travel in the Lower 48! I grew up near one of the highest crime rate areas in the US……very aware of the possibilities!

While not actually "on person"….we won't be without a firearm (though not a handgun) for self defense even in Canada!

Yes, our places to go are limited because of anti firearm cities/states! memtb

I really enjoy hunting SA, but as far as living there permanently, not a chance in hell. Gaza, Venezuela and Haiti are about the only places on earth more dangerous to live right now. Only good thing about SA is you can carry concealed.

Texas is the hog state of choice and there are javalina in some locations also. It's also a gun friendly state and hunts are usually reasonably priced and year round . Tho I'd say it was hot and humid on my last hunt in texas mid June. I'd suggest the early part of the year not to hot not to cold.

For hogs and javelina, look to Texas. Prices can be very reasonable. Private lands are plentiful.

For just Javis, AZ has a bunch. Cheap too. Just need to draw a tag for most hunts, but there are some over the counter areas. Just not as dense of populations, so you need to know WHERE they are in those areas. Fun to hunt, they taste like stinky feet though.

Blue Rooster Ranch near Holbrook, AZ has hogs. Private land.

You could hunt Komifornia without a guide - but the hogs are on private land - and that land is leased to outfitters I wouldn't seriously consider KA without a guide. The good news is that you WILL get at least one hog and should expect both of you to be successful.
