Any advice, I have built AR-15's from the ground up. Would love to learn more about Remington 700 and Mauser actions, ideally I would like to make a .308 or .300 RUM. Where do I start?
A How To Video on how to rebarrel a 700 did wonders for me about 10 years ago. It's not as hard as one may think, but then I don't consider rebuilding an engine or tranny difficult either. It's alot like reloading go slow and double check often.
Yes Sir, I do plan on doing all the work by myself I did buy a lathe, while its not the biggest in the world it should get me by, Do I really need to spend 20 + Thousand dollars to learn how to build custom rifles?
Assembling an AR always reminds me of puttin' a new blade on the lawn mower! Not much to be learned there. Put some "Never Seize" on the bolt that holds the blade on.
If you have a lathe already then some advice. Read everything you can. Start practicing on scrap or old barrels. You can also try apprenticing for a local gunsmith as well as machining classes at your local comm. college.
