Tried to load the video in this thread, would not load but you can go to the CWD thread in the Deer hunting forum, I was able to load video there. Worth the hassle if you are interested or worried about our North American Whitetail herd being decimated !

That video is so full of crap that it's ridiculous it was even released! This Doctor is one of thousands that have worked on CWD and for him to come up with what he did and then talking like CWD will be cured in the near future and test kits even possibly possibly sold to the publlc is unbelievable.

Ok, I am sure a lot of deer hunters are disappointed that a cure is not forthcoming and the Doctors and scientist that are working on this and were highlighted in the video are all wrong. In fact I think a lot of deer hunters would be very interested in "the truth" on the CWD epidemic. If you could please state your medical and scientific background and then explain in detail based on your knowledge why the video is "full of crap" . I for one am worried about the disease destroying deer hunting as we know it and why the doctors approach is pathologically incorrect or unsound. My background is limited so please don't go any deeper in your response than the cellular pathogenic level so I can fully understand the situation.
Thanks!

The man from LSU has been making these claims for over a decade. No other scientists have ever been able to duplicate his results. That's why most (including me), feel that he hasn't found a cure for CWD. I also have two cousins that work at the National Animal Disease Center in Ames, Ia. One works extensively with prions in the swine family. She also doubts his claims. I live in the heart of the CWD zone in Wisconsin. I would love for this to be true more than anyone, but I doubt it is.

I was a grad student at Purdue in the early 80's when Stanley Prusiner's work on prions was first published - it wasn't widely accepted that a mis-folded protein could induce a change in a normal "scrapie" protein. The prion protein has been shown to be very resistant to heat and sterilization - and still able to induce mis-folding.... Hard to imagine a spiroplasma [bacteria] that is in insects as that hardy - it's not a thermophile [ie. isolated from hot springs/geysers/thermal vents]. The videos claims are very optimistic to say the least. I don't perform research in this field but find it hard to believe that a "cure" would be forthcoming so quickly. But if a cause-effect relationship can be proven it would at least give hope for a "cure".
My background [DVM PhD Biochemistry]

Yes, it's in the southwest portion of Tennessee, the state has made some hunting season changes for that area to lower the population considerably... I suspect that it'll spread from there.

Stuff is very tough to kill. My mother built the surgical sterilization program for a college. Only two accepted ways to get rid of it. Mainly the human version of it. One is a mixture that I can't remember but the new trend is ozone. Ozone will destroy any protein based or carbon based thing. Doesn't help cure it yet. But to be safe i use gloves now as it's in Michigan also. When done I bought an ozone machine and run it in a small space for an hour with my knife and anything else that needs it.
It eats anything rubber fast so o rings on knife go quick.

CWD is some scary stuff. Hoping they find a real cure to it in the near future. Would hate for future generations not to be able to safely eat the game they kill.
