I started using two trail cams in the same location for the same reason. I always place one for the game and one for the thief. the one for the thief is always on the trail leading to the game camera
where the thief won't be looking for it.
In some cases I have used warning signs that said "GUARDED BY CAMERAS" that worked well.
It's to bad there are people out there like that but there are, so prosecute them to the max when you catch them.
PS: I would hide another camera so if the thief does come back you will have him/her returning it (More prof if you need it).
