If you fly a lot it should be a nice benefit. It includes the TSA precheck benefits for domestic travel as well!

Just make sure you have 2+ hours for customs before your connecting flight. You will be fine
Last evening in Atlanta, I arrived from Rome, customs was 45 min line they understand you have a connection and do keep things moving
I fly often and get precheck from the airline, rare for me to fly international. Easy to give myself plenty of time between flights

How long does it take to approve the Global Entry? My nephew applied, got approved but you have to go in to the office to finalize the approval. The closest office that will do it this year is in Brownsville. We are in N Texas.

I have had Global Entry for about 8 years and have used it extensively. Yes, it's worth it. I couldn't tell you how long it takes to get now, nor can I remember how long it took me to get mine. Renewal was easy though.
