Glare off objective lens.........???

I just went through a worst case scenario in hunting and had set up where elk had been seen a few days in a row. Problem is it was across a valley and looking directly at the setting sun. A factory 4" sunshade would have been worthless. I used a snack cake box to make a rather looong sunshade for the scope and piece of cardboard to make a shade for the binos.

Sun shade should help with a scope. You would probably have to make something similar for your binoculars. I don't think anything will help when looking directly into the sun. Good luck hunting and be safe.

Agreed filters would do the trick, but I have found that walking a short distance one way or another I can get a different angle and see well enough to make the shot. Also getting in a shady spot, behind a tree ect. can also help and its a lot cheaper. Good luck hunting and be safe.

I think people have largely assumed that I was concerned about spooking game. I was really more interested in scouting an area, and not drawing attention to that. I can think of many "Totally Legal" reasons I may want to not be observed while hunting. One being if there are other hunters in the valley (Alaska) and if I was judging a trophy, I would not want to be signaling everyone.......as they could observe where I am watching, and make the stalk while I am still scoring the animal. I might want to watch someone's camp to see which direction they head off to in the morning. So I can hunt the other direction, and not interfere with each other.

Note: Much of Alaska has "NO" trees.

Find a bush or a mound anything that will give you a little bit of shade, never stop thinking. Good luck hunting and be safe.

Ard's will take care of any glint...or some pantyhose stretched over your binocular lens. Lol

When I first read this I assumed it was because the sun's glare was degrading your ability to observe. Now my understanding is you're wanting to degrade others ability to observe you. However my advice stays the same, if you were in harms way maybe not.
I have used ARDs, panty hose, cat-eyes slits, "bird nests", you name it for years so I will caution you- any of these will degrade the optical performance of your binos/spotter/rifle scope. If you are going to spend your hard earned money and buy the best equipment you can afford, why degrade it with such trinkets? Best thing is to tuck into the shadows if possible (as stated), if shadow isn't available make you one.

Amen on making one. As I said never stop thinking, use your back pack or what ever is available. Good luck hunting and be safe.
