Getting a new pickup, help me decide

A friend of mine has a F250 Ford diesel. We met for coffee one morning before work. When we left he got about a mile and a message came up on the dash. "PULL OVER IMMEDIATELY" and it was not kidding. He barely got to the side of the road before total shut down. He had to call and get it towed to the dealer. It was a sensor in the tail pipe. RIDICULOUS!

bret, was in purchasing for a very large law enforcement agency, I was involved with researching vehicles for purchase. All 3/4 ton gasoline trucks get crappy mileage. We always bought diesels, even though initial cost was higher. Better mileage, longer engine life, much better pulling power. Good luck
I agree that you get better mileage and more power with a diesel, but like you said you do pay for it in the beginning. You also pay the whole time that you own it with the higher price per gallon of fuel. And there are also those idiots that change the chips and blow half of their fuel out the exhaust system! Good luck hunting and be safe.

I work for a company that has ~100,000 employee's. They have been using ford trucks forever, until now. Their repair costs are so high that all the Ford's are being transitioned out for Chevy trucks. Both gas and diesel. Now I'm not bashing Ford, I like my Ford work truck. It's a 2012 i believe, power stroke. The problem is it's cost the company about $8-10k a year on repairs. And I baby it, like grampa driving, not pulling anything. It is very comfortable to drive and a great ride for a 1-ton single wheel. To me it feels like it is lacking the power it should have and what the mfg states.
I don't think I would own a gas dodge truck. A guy I worked with had one. Terrible mileage when he was pulling a trailer. But if I was to get a diesel it would be a Cummins. They are solid. Always have been.
Chevy has always been very good to me. I haven't had a duramax but wouldn't be afraid of having one. Great ride across the board but at a cost. IFS suspension has more moving parts there for more parts to break and wear out. The LS engines are second to none. Great power, mileage, and longevity.
So if it was me, Chevy if it's gas. Dodge or Chevy for a diesel.

I had a Dodge 2500 with a hemi a long time ago. It was fun to drive, but was horrible on gas. Didn't do a whole lot of heavy pulling but when i did it seemed to work fine. I am currently considering getting another dodge 2500, but will go with diesel this time. Current truck is a chevy 1500 crew cab and I love it, but after pulling 7000 lbs of concrete and roasting the breaks, i think it is time to upgrade. I don't haul things a lot but when i do it is usually a pretty heavy load. Good luck

My advice would be to drive all of them and pick the one you feel most comfortable driving. All in all, any one of the trucks out there will do what you want, however. If you have been a Chevy guy your whole life you will probably like the Chevy best. I was born and bred Ford, and have purchased a couple Chevy's because they were a "good deal" and hated every one of them....I believe we are all creatures of habit, or old dogs that have time learning new tricks.

Good Luck!

I did that last year. Never had a Ford before but decided on F150. I like good ride and quiet above all.

Dodge just announced a major recall on trucks going back as far as 2009 I think.

I used to work for a company that made automotive parts, and Dodge would accept things that Ford and Chevy called "scrap".

O wow. So what truck do u drive?

Mercedes X Class. might be a good idea to buy a quality german rifle to go with it to

Dodge recall
http://www.salemnews.com/cnhi_netwo...cle_9e16807c-0536-5765-9250-9b33928dfc68.html

Nearly 1.8 million Dodge Ram trucks are being recalled due to a shifting problem.

The issue rises from an electrical overheating problem, and could cause the trucks to roll away on their own while in park, the company announced.

The recall covers Ram 2500 and 3500 pickups from 2010 through 2017, chassis cab Ram 2500, 3500 and 4500 models from 2001 to 2017 and some Ram 1500 models from 2009 to 2017.

Trucks manufactured in 2017, even though they may be of the model year, are not part of the recall.

I bought a brand new 2017 Ford XL 3.5 ecoboost 10 speed Crew Cab FX4 that had a serious vibration issue at 70-80 mph. After months of nothing being done to actually fix the problem, FMC hooked up a 5K piece of equipment to just say it was within their vibration limits. Yet the tech clearly felt it in the floor, the steering wheel, and the passenger seat shaking itself to death, and wrote it down in each work order! Towing made it only worse, and at a lower speed, 60-65 mph. They tried to say it was the wheels, then the tires, then needed road force balancing, and in the end the 5K equipment they hooked up just so they wouldn't have to fix the issue...... The lemon laws are simple, take the milage x 120,000 divided by the cost= the trade in value, period! I bought a Toyota Tundra. Does it get as good of gas milage, nope, tow as well, nope, but doesn't have a ton of electronics either! BTW, I had the exact same Ford XL 3.5 ecoboost Crew Cab in a 2013 model that was perfect! No issues, and wish I never traded it in for the 2017.

That said I will never touch another Ford, that deal cost me 9K for a 4 month old truck, and the hassle dealing with them not addressing the issue from day one!
