I do not know of a strict physics based formula for recoil. I am trying to discover the difference between two loads.
A 180 grain bullet. 65 grains of powder at 2,945 fps

A 140 grain bullet. 59 grains of powder at 3,250 fps

I'd appreciate any serious attempt to supply me with the math involved, to arrive at the correct conclusion.

Thank you for your attention in this matter.

if you supply the cartridge and powder could give numbers from quickload

300 WSM 12.44 ft-lb bullet leaves muzzle. for 6.5 I used the gibbs cartridge 9.88 ft-lb both in 10# rifles

I have an accurate singleshot Savage .300 WSM and am building a magazine rifle in the 6.5- .270 Improved. Interesting, a 25per cent reduction in recoil and three hundred feet per second increase in velocity.
Thank you so very much for this valued information.
