BH,

What kind of powder are you shooting in your 300 WSM that you say you have got over 2000 rounds through and have experienced no noticeable erosion? Just curious to see if it is a double based or single based powder.

I had been shooting H4350 with 190 JLKs (1000 rds) and MRP with 210 JLKs (1300 rds). I got 2300 rounds through my last barrel (Spencer) and still took 9th overall at Nationals in HG with that barrel. However, I was starting to have throat erosion so went to a new Broughton barrel. Not sure which one caused most of the erosion or firecracking, did not have a borescope then. Plus firecracking once it starts accelerates in some barrels.

However, have 3 buddies that are shooting 300 WSM in other barrels that are saying they are not getting the throat erosion I did. Barrels are two Broughtons and one Lilja.

Two of them are pushing 210s at 3000 fps.

both my current 300 WSM comp guns are set up for BIB 187s in 12 twist and MRP (25 lbs all one lot) with Norma brass. The LG has only shot 4 matches, but took 4th in World Open. HG has brand new barrel that has not been broken in yet. Got to get busy.

Hi Guys,

BH, you have 25lbs of MRP? Well somebody was planning ahead.

GG, I called that sproting goods store in Utah that you mentioned in another thread, they have some Norma powder but unfortunately for me, no MRP.

I sent an e-mail to Black Hills asking if they were going to start importing Norma powder, but never got a response.

Anybody heard anything else on Norma MRP availibilty?

What Load are they using to get that kind of velocity?
I want to load 200gn AB's at around 3000fps but cant get there.
Does anyone know what the Hodgon powders are in ADI powder form?

cheers

I to am curious as to what powder combo/ barrel length they are using to get 3000 with a 210g. I have been thinking of a 300 WSM. Getting one in a savage 12bvss. They have a 26" tube. I was hoping I could achieve 3000fps with a 190g vld/ 200g AB, and 2900 with a 210g vld. Are my velocities far fetched???

The ABs have a very long bearing surface and a very thick hard jacket. This will cause pressures to go up quicker than when using ULD/VLD type bullets.

Four of us (we bought 200 lbs of the last shipment) are using MRP but in custom actions and "off the chart loads" which I will not list. I was getting 2975 fps and the top end one guy was getting was 3050.

Barrels were all 30" and either custom actions or steel sleeved 700s.

The is one of the reasons I use the ladder. You will find "reloading manuals" are by nature conservative for good reason and for the experienced reloader using strong custom actions you often find that you easily exceed the listed upper limits and find a node that shoots extremely well. Key is to proceed carefully and watch for pressure signs and other indicators.
