I have a 1995 Swarovski 6 x 42 HABICHT with standard DUPLEX reticle and a 26mm tube on my 1987 30-06 Mauser K98 a/n.
No need to have a scope with turrets etc etc.- I set it 2.5 inches high at 100mtrs and it is good to go up to 250mtrs, which is my maximum shooting distance. I hunt a lot here in S Africa and Namibia every year; eg 2024 season now closed and hunted 1 kudu bull, 1 x black wildebeest, 3 Fallow, 2 gemsbok and 14 springbok...(Hunt for friends, and for people who do not hunt...)
Look up MPBR and you will see that with 165gr in 30-06 it is good to go up to 270yards, so I just aim without worrying about Mill Dots, hold overs, turrets, adjusting, etc, and only allow for wind drift.
A lot of unnecessary hype - as is with newer golf clubs. Just practice at different ranges and always with one bullet make and weight - for paper and hunting, and that keeps costs down - I use the Hornady 165gr Interlock which I self-load.
