Fixed power scopes

Starting to look for a potential scope options for my very not long long range 35Rem. If I can squirrel away a dollar in the next year.
Are fixed 2.5x or 4x scopes completely a thing of the past now and I am stuck in the used market? Everything available even compact scopes seem to have large ocular bells or are very tactical which is not what I want on my Dads 336 from '64.
My eyes stink and I can't see the irons in the woods.

I feel your pain, but don't overlook those old Leopold scopes. Most of the really old ones are great glass, and can be found fairly cheap on EBay or gun broker. And of course when you find one you can send it in to Leopold and have them go through it and make sure everything works perfectly.

I have an leupold fixed 6 on an 450 marlin I was gifted. And on another 450 marlin I have a 2-7 burris scout scope I like both of those set ups.
Another option may be to go with one of the loci out there.

Loci?

I had a bolt scout rifle set up in the past when I was mainly woods hunting in VA mountains. I never could get used to the set up and sold the whole rig.

Im not much of a Leopold fan, but their 2.5x20 is the perfect compliment to a 30-30 or 35rem, or any other quick handling light weight short range rifle.

I'm due another for my 300BO SBR.

I have the Burris 2-7 scout on my 35 REM 336. I agree it's different and I'm getting used to it. Another option is a red dot on a rail. I have a 444 with a fixed redfield 4x that is good. I think Leupold is fazing out the 6x.

This is my dad's rifle so I am not modifying it for a scout mount. I think I am just gonna end up with an older scope. I like the Leupold 2.5 idea but I assume these are limited runs because they aren't available anywhere. The Hawke is the only other thing I have found even close as far as new production.

You can order direct from Leopold. At least you could when I got my last one a hand full of years ago. If you are LE or Military, they have a pretty good discount too.

It is not a full 'tacticool' optic and other then the knob opposite the windage adjustment turret it looks fairly 'normal.'
My eyes are going and irons are starting to be a thing of the past for me, too. Since discovering optics like these I feel like I can still shoot as if I'm shooting with iron sights. When set at 1X it's like shooting irons that have light gathering ability. And I learned something about myself, just because an optic has the ability to change it's magnification doesn't mean that I am obligated to change it. Same with the illumination, leave the battery out of it if you're not interested in using that function.
