First groundhog of 2023

Got the first groundhog of this year for me today. Pesky pig that's been hanging around the fence line between this field and a small wooded lot. Model 7 Predator in 223.

We had an early spell of warm weather. It was in the 70's for several days in late February and we had plenty of rain so it brought on spring growth early. I even saw some gobblers strutting before the calendar hit March. It's back to normal now, mid 40s yesterday and actually flurrying snow today.

The shot wasn't very far, only about 85 yards. Due to property lines and a public road I had to approach in through the wooded lot, which would be behind where the picture was taken from. I got up to the fence line, then took the shot down it.

Ah, Gotcha. We had the same spell here in Colorado, just didnt get as warm as you.

I've been working on them in eastern WV. My first was 58 yards with my Taurus Raging Bull in .41 Mag. Got 5 yesterday. Up to 48 so far. Only killed 1 female out of the bunch. That's management for survival of the species!

Coldbore 533 yards with the 260 AI. First chuck of the year and first anything on the 260 AI. Sheep herders have come into the area so this might be the last one for awhile. Dialed 2.80 mils, he was running right to left and stopped. I aimed for the head in case he ran when I shot. Caught him under the chin.

Good job. I always take pics of my first Whistle Pig every year. This year the first one was 92 yards almost straight up a rock face. All I had was a peek-A-boo head shot and there was no way to get to it. 108gr Berger Elite Hunter from a 30" 6mm Dasher.
