After 2 very frustrating range sessions and experimenting with 2 different bullets trying to find a good consistent, accurate load, it all came together. I bought a Savage LRP in .260 last fall and did not get to shoot over the winter but a little experimenting last fall and this spring was frustrating to say the least. I really wanted to get every bit of accuracy out of this rifle because I plan to do some 1000-1500 yd shooting. Well let me tell you I had no idea 0.010in is such a huge deal in seating depth with target bullets. I found that 41.5gr of H4350, Federal Match LR primers and 140gr Berger VLDs are awsome when seated to 2.260 at the ogive and 42gr H4350 same primer and a 142gr SMK seated 2.260 at the ogive are almost as good. here are the two best groups. I now have to load some up and zero the scope and test at long range. The 3 rd groups were shot at 100yds and the Bergers gave me .240in and the SMKs gave me .288in. I know 3rd groups are not as good as 5 but I was in a hurry to try these babies.

GREAT SHOOTING !

Is your rifle a Model 12 LRP ?
I have been trying to decide if I wanted to purchase one .
What brass did you use , and did you chronograph the velocities of these loads ?

Thank You ,
DMP25-06

Yes it is a 12 LRP. The brass is Winchester 7mm-08 necked down. I chronoed a few loads prior to this but not these. The loads I chronoed were with 142 gr SMKs and H4350. I got a 5 shot avg for the following loads.
2730 fps with 41.5gr H4350
2775 fps with 42.5grH4350
2863 fps with 43.5gr H4350
2918 fps with 44.5gr H4350

It is not the COAL but the measurement to the ogive with a comparator. I will get COAL now that I found a seating depth.
I know that it may be a typo but don't get confused and think you are supposed to have an OAL of 2.260 like you posted. :)

Very nice shooting though!

Gotta love the accuracy of a good rifle! From the looks of your pics, your trouble appears to be, you were doing things upside down. :D

Great shooting! i am still working on loads for mine. i was wondering about berger bullets. you just answered my question.
