FFL charges

Just had a local FFL ship a pistol to a manufacturer for me(to resolve an issue). I could have done it myself, the manufacturer sent me a FedEx label for this. But as mentioned earlier, I am cursed, so I had a dealer do it for me.
He is charging $35 to send & $35 to receive. This, because he is transferring the gun into his name, and later back to mine for this..

Seems excessive process & expense-wise. And it seems liability for him.
If FedEx disappears my gun, it's in the dealers name now. It's fully on him to make it right for me as well. I had just paid $650 for the gun.
This is the first time I've had an FFL ship for me, so maybe that's normal.
There is no need for him to transfer the gun to his name?? He should log it in his acquisition book under your name, then log it being sent out to the manufacturer with a note that when it comes back its for you as a repair shipment. No need to do anything else. When it comes back, log it coming in from the manufacturer and then dispose it back to you, the registered owner……. Some FFLs make this far more complicated then it needs to be, usually simply so they can charge multiple fees…. 😡😡
