Just bought a 10/22 and re barreled it with a heavy 18" SS barrel. Went out and "handloaded" a bunch of different ammo. Wolf match Extra was darned good, but it's expensive. Second best was a consistent .3 grouping of Eley Standard from a very old 50 round box. Price on box was $2.98 and brass was even discolored! So, I found a site that had this ammo in a 500 round box for a decent price. Got them, looked good and I thought they may even shoot better. Was I ever disappointed! Groups were splattered. Like an inch or so. Didn't even measure them.
So I wrote Eley and the store I bought them to find some answers. Neither have replied. Oh, and Eley's web site doesn't even show this Standard ammo!
So I have two question for y'all. First, do you know anything about the Standard round? Second, what is your best ammo and your accurate, affordable ammo you shoot in your 10/22s?

Affordable, I haven't found one. My best groups are shot with Eley Edge. My go to is CCI sub sonic lr hp. The sound and price are much better. Accuracy is very good but not in the ballpark with the Eley.

After a bunch of testing at 50 and 100 yds and 20 different types of .22 ammo, cheap to medium priced.
Geco Semi Auto has been the most consistent over many recorded tests and it is pretty inexpensive if you look around. Just bought some for $.05/rd not incl shipping.
I routinely get .5"-.75" at 50yds and 1.25"- 1.5" at 100 yds. Sometimes getting better but these are honest averages. Better/ more consistent ammo will do better but....
I didn't go with any of the super pricey stuff, lets face it am I going to shoot .22 ammo that costs $.50 per round for fun? Nope.
This is with a KIDD barrel/bolt/handle and spring. stock trigger wood stock and free floated with no barrel band.

I'm shooting the Eley Target (gold box) in my daughter's cz455 and it's fantastic. In 10rds, I have an ES of 20fps and an sd of 6.5. The accuracy is very good as well. Out the door, was $64 for 500.
On the cheaper side, I shoot the Aguila super extra 40gr target. The SD's are higher, but accuracy to 100yds is still 1moa or slightly less. That ammo is approx $3.00 per box.

I used to shoot Eley Target through my custom 10/22. It was under 1/2moa all the time. Some other ammo would get there off and on but not even close with consistency. I ran lots of different ammo through it too. This was probably 10yrs ago now though. By the price of your old Eley it was probably the same vintage or older. I can almost guarantee manufacturing process has changed. Which any change can make a drastic difference in accuracy and performance. Sucks it's not for the better. I guess I don't really know what you want them to do? I'd chalk it up as a loss and look for another brand of ammo that shoots good. My opinion though. Good luck with the rifle.
