Stop blaming nonresidents, there as equal or many more residents to blame. People find it easy to place blame and not look at the overall pictur.
An online course for out of state hunters is silly I passed hunters Ed 30 years ago.Everything I said is accurate , this debate started in the 80's , I remember a small rancher friend of mine telling a guy from PA that access has to go through private land and things are going to change. Also I know of a goat checked at a deer checking station on the Eastern shore of Md back in the early 80's , a turkey hunter killing a farmers domestic turkey by mistake and beef being hit by a deer hunter not sure of his back ground . We need to start in our own ranks and clean the slobs and inexperience hunters up! One member thought a on line course for out of state hunters , that's a good idea!
I'm with you however , it isn't right to lock out areas that the rancher don't own. There is right always in every other avenue of society and you tell me we can't get the same consideration ? Believe me it irritates the heck out of me and we should band together and fight it.
Great question that I don't have the answer for. To be honest I've caught myself doing it and have to stop and unwind myself when I notice. Why is it resident hunters feel they have some special hold over federal land located in their state? The only difference in my eyes is that resident hunters don't get raped on their license fees.
I know I am gonna sound like a jerk for this and it is what it is. In Nevada we don't need no res. to keep are fish and game department open, we have local wildlife conservation groups that donate and do more on their own than our own state even does, He|| we only have 30 wardens in the state. It does help with special projects for us and it isn't fair to lock anyone out of tax payer lands or animals. The biggest issue is lazy hunters, slop hunters, plain old stupid out in the field and the thing you should have been told when you were a kid, is guilt by association. You see 50 people persay with California plates(ha ha) non res.and they're all being jack offs driving around blazing their own trails leaving trash and trespassing and 5 that are stand up good ethical hunters doing their part the group's going to get a bad name persay "non-resident hunter" that is not to say that res.hunters or jackass city people don't cause problems out in the field. They do and some time big problems. Hunter safety is one thing, teaching ethics, morals and etiquette isn't their the job of hunter safety or a fish and game department. That should be on there parents or the mentor or other hunters. Let's face it,You can't fix stupid and you can't stop them from being out there. So they're teaching others the same crap that they do. Same goes for ranchers and farmers that are stretched to thin or don't care about anything but money/profit or just don't know any better. Why is it resident hunters feel they have some special hold over federal land located in their state? The only difference in my eyes is that resident hunters don't get raped on their license fees.
In my experience , 50+yrs. hunting in Mt. The blame is placed where the blame lies, with the majority of it falling on the non-residents. I have looked at the overall picture and it continues to get worse every year instead of deflecting blame start policing your own ranks.Stop blaming nonresidents, there as equal or many more residents to blame. I have lived in 3 states. I have never hunted out of my resident state, thats my choice. I think that residents see the game year round and also tend to camp and "live" in that land so it becomes their home. So they become protective of it, thats a good thing. There are plenty of local slobs, thats a fact. But you are still traveling to their towns so there will always be that. All I can say is that there is only so much "west" and it can only support so many hunters. I doubt things will get much better. I live in a very small town in Montana and can say the local attitude is not anti-out of state, its anti arrogant a-hole. There are a good amount of people here that believe if you want to hunt here you should take the pay cut and live here, however. Why is it resident hunters feel they have some special hold over federal land located in their state? Private property sure and I don't disagree with you in the least on that. landlocked BLM,state and federal land different story. I can't even believe that bill got passed the fence post crossing one or whatever that crap is. That's just ludicrous. Must be nice to have friends in high places kind of law.I find it interesting that there is such little regard for private property rights. I know if I found you wondering around my ranch you would have a very long day.
I agree. The country is changing.I find it interesting that there is such little regard for private property rights. I know if I found you wondering around my ranch you would have a very long day.
