Disappointed in non-resident hunters

Everything I said is accurate , this debate started in the 80's , I remember a small rancher friend of mine telling a guy from PA that access has to go through private land and things are going to change. Also I know of a goat checked at a deer checking station on the Eastern shore of Md back in the early 80's , a turkey hunter killing a farmers domestic turkey by mistake and beef being hit by a deer hunter not sure of his back ground . We need to start in our own ranks and clean the slobs and inexperience hunters up! One member thought a on line course for out of state hunters , that's a good idea!

I'm with you however , it isn't right to lock out areas that the rancher don't own. There is right always in every other avenue of society and you tell me we can't get the same consideration ? Believe me it irritates the heck out of me and we should band together and fight it.
An online course for out of state hunters is silly I passed hunters Ed 30 years ago.

Another part of this equation in Mt. and probably other western states that fuels the fire against non-resident hunters is the fact that hundreds of thousands of acres are being bought up by wealthy out of staters ie: Texas, California and other states as well. The first thing they do is lock the gates and close it to hunting, which is fine I guess- its their property - but they are also shutting off access to Federal, State, BLM, Bureau of Reclamation lands that previously had legal access. Currently in Montana there are multiple lawsuits being tied up in court by litigious non residents who just don't care whether it is public ground or not. So from a residents perspective when you lose public ground to Entitled wealthy out of staters then try to find a new place to hunt only to run into more non resident hunters you tend to cringe every time you see an out of state plate in the area. The people who are shutting hunters out of public ground only compounds the problem by focusing more hunters on less available public ground. Some people out there may not like to hear this - It is what it is and if you are a resident its not good.

Why is it resident hunters feel they have some special hold over federal land located in their state? The only difference in my eyes is that resident hunters don't get raped on their license fees.
Great question that I don't have the answer for. To be honest I've caught myself doing it and have to stop and unwind myself when I notice.

Its not because we feel we have a special hold on the Federal land. It is the fact that non residents buy up the private land adjoining Federal, state, blm and bureau of Reclamation and illegally shut access off to the adjoining public lands for their own private use because they have the money and attorneys to tie it up in litigation for years. If you couple that with the non residents who are slob hunters then it tends to rub you the wrong way. I am not saying all non residents are slob hunters because they are not. However if you pay attention at all to the citations issued during hunting season the majority and the most damaging to the hunting community are issued to non residents who show up for a few days a year and RAPE our wildlife resources then go home. I am not saying there arent residents who do the same because there are. However in my experience the out of staters are by far the worst offenders.

I know I am gonna sound like a jerk for this and it is what it is. In Nevada we don't need no res. to keep are fish and game department open, we have local wildlife conservation groups that donate and do more on their own than our own state even does, He|| we only have 30 wardens in the state. It does help with special projects for us and it isn't fair to lock anyone out of tax payer lands or animals. The biggest issue is lazy hunters, slop hunters, plain old stupid out in the field and the thing you should have been told when you were a kid, is guilt by association. You see 50 people persay with California plates(ha ha) non res.and they're all being jack offs driving around blazing their own trails leaving trash and trespassing and 5 that are stand up good ethical hunters doing their part the group's going to get a bad name persay "non-resident hunter" that is not to say that res.hunters or jackass city people don't cause problems out in the field. They do and some time big problems. Hunter safety is one thing, teaching ethics, morals and etiquette isn't their the job of hunter safety or a fish and game department. That should be on there parents or the mentor or other hunters. Let's face it,You can't fix stupid and you can't stop them from being out there. So they're teaching others the same crap that they do. Same goes for ranchers and farmers that are stretched to thin or don't care about anything but money/profit or just don't know any better.

I know a rancher that changes his oil in the dirt and just lets it drain in the dirt and when I asked what he was doing his answer is it came from the earth let it go back and I said what about your water supply or a buddy of mine that thought hunting was done at night because that is what his dad and grandpa had taught him, that was an interesting conversation to say the least.

We as a group have to be responsible. It is also our job to teach even if it becomes a controversial situation or heated problem. I have no problem chewing someone's *** when they screw up and I would hope someone would do the same to me. That is how you learn and if they break the law turn them in,that is what happens in Nevada. We as hunter have to help the game wardens out and let them know. You have phones with cameras record it and turn it in.

Blocking off blm or federal/state land is a different story all in its own stop voting in liberals that don't fallow the rules and do what they want when they want or there rich buddy's who want to get richer.

1 Prime example Obamacare just pass it and we'll figure it out yet no congressman, house or senat representatives had to go on it or fallow it oh and now it is a tax so it is legal.
Vote them out!

I have seen it with my own 2 eyes

I mean can you blame the rich buddies for going up and buying up dirt and then getting paid a ton of money to go in and grow crops and then have it destroyed as they put it by elk and deer so that you can get landowner tags/compensation tags and then get an outfitter to buy 10 of them off of you for $15,000 and he turns around and sells it for $20,000 just for a tag and then a hunt for another $20,000 cuz it happens in Nevada. Why wouldn't they keep you out they (animals) could move to BLM,state/federal land and now some guy who drew a tag has a chance at a 190" trophy mule deer. It is a easy answer call you senator buddy and b!tch about it and get him to make a BS law to change it.
I have watch are game commission get shut down more than once for the stated above.
Like I said VOTE THEM OUT.

Stop blaming nonresidents, there as equal or many more residents to blame. People find it easy to place blame and not look at the overall pictur.
In my experience , 50+yrs. hunting in Mt. The blame is placed where the blame lies, with the majority of it falling on the non-residents. I have looked at the overall picture and it continues to get worse every year instead of deflecting blame start policing your own ranks.

I have lived in 3 states. I have never hunted out of my resident state, thats my choice. I think that residents see the game year round and also tend to camp and "live" in that land so it becomes their home. So they become protective of it, thats a good thing. There are plenty of local slobs, thats a fact. But you are still traveling to their towns so there will always be that. All I can say is that there is only so much "west" and it can only support so many hunters. I doubt things will get much better. I live in a very small town in Montana and can say the local attitude is not anti-out of state, its anti arrogant a-hole. There are a good amount of people here that believe if you want to hunt here you should take the pay cut and live here, however.

I find it interesting that there is such little regard for private property rights. I know if I found you wondering around my ranch you would have a very long day.
Private property sure and I don't disagree with you in the least on that. landlocked BLM,state and federal land different story. I can't even believe that bill got passed the fence post crossing one or whatever that crap is. That's just ludicrous. Must be nice to have friends in high places kind of law.

I will say I noticed a lot of people b!tch!ng & complain on here why don't you do this to your legislatures, The lawmakers, your senators, your governors, tactfully because they just shut down when you start being a jerk or get heated. ask me how I know.

I'm disturbed by this idea that non resident hunters are to blame for the state of hunting ! I have never once felt that non resident hunters in my state are better or worse than any other hunter. I admit that they may bring their ideas with them to my state but besides that there are good and bad people . So what do you guy think , only hunt your own state ? One reason i like this site so much is to experience the common love for guns and hunting. So should I only converse with Maryland hunters? Like I posted before , I have hunted and fished in many states , I try to be respectful and I obey the law ! I don't like to be treated poorly or jerked around and I certainly don't do that to my fellow hunters. I'm sorry I have met some great people in other states and from other states hunting in my own. I've learned different ways to hunt and it has added to my life's experience ! Why would I ever want to stop someone else the same chance. Guys I can't say this anymore clearly , yes there are idiot non resident hunters out there and just as many local jerks as well! Don't think so come and visit me and I'll let you meet some of the local talent! Guess what I'm sure your state has as many also!
