I know this is a long range hunting forum, but it happens to be the only hunting forum I am involved with and the broad range of knowledge on here leads me to believe there will be someone with the answer/experience I am searching for. I am planning another trip back to Africa and am looking to upgrade the scope on my 375H&H. It is an older model CZ, so choices of rings and bases are somewhat limited. I currently have an old 1" Leupold 1-4x on it, but as my eyes are not getting younger, I am looking for something with a bit more power in the upper range. I would still like to stick with 1, 1.5 or 2x as the low end. Illuminated reticle is nearly a must and I would prefer FFP. If I can get rings to fit, these are the top choices I am looking at in ascending order of cost:
Athlon Ares ETR 1-10 x 24
Trijicon Credo 1-8 x 28
NF NX8 1-8 x 24
Eotech Vudu 1-10 x 28
Vortex Razor Gen III 1-10 x 24
I have figured in MOA and yards for 40 years, so am not really looking to complicate things by trying to change to MRAD now. To be honest, the reticles I like most are actually in the 2 least expensive scopes. I think the Trijicon is made tough enough to hold up to hard recoil and getting knocked around, so am leaning in that direction. I really like the Athlon reticle and the extra power in the upper range, but I have never owned or even held one, so am a little apprehensive to put it on a dangerous game rifle. I know NF will hold up, and that is the majority of the scopes I own, but I don't love the reticle for this application and the glass may not be quite as good. The Eotech is another one I am intrigued by, but have no personal knowledge of. I have one of the Gen II Razors in 3-18 and it may be the best built scope I've ever had, so I'm confident the Gen III would hold up, but again, I don't love the reticle for this situation and I don't really wish to spend extra $$ if I really don't need to.
If there are some options I have not considered and someone has firsthand knowledge of them for this purpose, I am surely open to suggestions and not fixated on only he choices listed above.
Thanks in advance for any help you might provide.
