Custom Hornady Dies?

I was looking into purchasing a set of custom bushing-style dies from Hornady for my 7mmRemMag. I need to fire a few rounds and then send them to Hornady I believe. Then they will make the die match the fired rounds.

Is the accuracy gain going to be worth it?

I like the Hornady custom dies but for a 7mm RM I would just go with either a RCBS Gold Medal FL bushing die or a Redding Type-S FL bushing die.

Unless you have a custom barrel, and your future barrels will be cut with the same reamer and by the same 'smith using the same process, custom dies are not economically sensible. Shooting a factory barrel, I doubt that you will see any difference. There has to be an issue that custom dies will resolve for there to be a performance gain.

I suggest that you post on a gunsmithing forum, asking about accuracy and the 7mm RM.

I like the Forster and Redding dies much better. The seating dies are way better.
The hornady seating die is not custom, just the sizer die.Altough the hornady has an internal sleeve ,it only supports the case at the neck.
I like the way the Forster and Redding dies support the whole case.I get much less runout with the Forster and Redding dies.

First, as with anything else, there is no guarantee you will obtain any better accuracy at all.

If you mean you want to buy a neck sizer die for a factory rifle I sure haven't seen any positive benefits with any bushing die over a conventional sizer. I have seen/had very good results with Lee's Collet Neck Sizers. So much so that I now have six of them and wouldn't trade any of them for anyone's bushing dies at all!

You didn't mention a seater but no seating die can correct for defective necks. Lee's collets give the straightest sized necks I've experienced in some 40+ years of reloading using a LOT of different dies. With good necks, the Forster seaters, and Redding's copies, are the ONLY seaters worthy of being labeled "BR/Competion Dies" for use in conventional presses. No one else is even close.
