Since I don't like taking my tactical rig out in the rain (yea sounds funny but they are more of a pain to clean than a stainless encore) my son & I have switched over to single shots with the idea that they would be accurate enough out to 500 yards. Well it took a little extra work but we both have our Encores shooting about .75moa or better at the moment and it looks like we have the potential with handloading to get that down to .5moa. With that I'll be happy to shoot out past 500 yards. So I don't think accuracy is the short coming of a single shot at this point. The triggers are the next spot to compare. Obviously you can get any number of awesome aftermarket triggers for most rifles. Not so much with a single shot. With just a little work we got the Encores down to 2 pounds. I've read they can be brought down even further wo/to much work or sent in to Bellm.
I've hunted most of my years with either a Remington 700 or Savage 110 bolt action rifle. I've also had Encore single shots for specific hunting tasks. (can't beat one for a short / compact brush gun in any caliber you want...think 16" barrel and no action to make it long) What I learned was 500+ yard shots for us was uncommon and more than one shot was equally uncommon. They also sell everything you'd need to make an Encore awesome at a fraction of the cost of a Ruger #1 (all be it no where near as purdy) www.bellmtcs.com/bellm/encoretrigger For follow up shots I've found a little two bullet holder on the forend can be almost as quick as a bolt action but there is more movement associated with reloading a single shot encore. Then again I've never had anything care about that movement once the deer or yote get out past 250-300 yards. Just my experience, I think it ends up boiling down to what is most comfortable for you and what you practice with the most so the shot(s) can be made more than what they are made with. OK one advantage for the Encore...you can swap the barrel to whatever caliber you want with ease and factory barrels are cheap (250 bucks or less often) and the super nice custom barrels are about the same price as a prefit R700 barrel but easier to put on, no headspace gauge needed.
