I am new to the site, and have not posted to a forum before, so bear with me. I have been reading a lot about different calibers and how no one rifle is right for every situation. I started thinking it makes sense then to look at a scenario as follows: .22 for short range; something in the vicinity of .223 for medium range; .308 for long range; .338 for ultra long range? Or is this (no pun intended) overkill? I have inherited over the years several rifles which I would like to replace as they have shortcomings such as the .22 which is tube fed and not magazine fed (which I would prefer such as the Ruger 10/22) and would like to consider the above as a guideline if it actually makes sense. Thanks, I look forward to your guidance and suggestions.
