Cost of a Custom Rifle with Glass

What would you spend or have spent?

What is your budget (costs) for a complete custom rifle with glass if you were having someone build for you or you building?
Since today I finally finished our Taxes and had a lot of receipts to go over.

I was tabulating some costs of our rifles from last year with glass including purchase price shipping & taxes. We have (5) builds like this.
$1,500 - Stock with inlet & bedding or Chassis
$500.00 to $2,000.00 for BiPod or Front Rest
$1,500 - $2,000.00 - Action
$550.00 for SS Barrel
$800.00 for CF Barrel
Buy (2) Same Barrels at the same time. First barrel to Dial in and or Fire Form and Second for having an accurate rifle.
$300.00 to 400.00 Trigger
$300.00 - $400.00 for Scope Mount
$200.00- Brake
$3,000.00 to $4,000.00 + for Glass
$300.00 ++++ for Gunsmith to Chamber Fit & Finish
$300.00 - $400.00 for Dies - Only component for reloading, all the other reloading components $$$$.

Glass is the most expensive component.

$8,500.00+ mid range cost.
Some people have yachts, expensive horses, summer homes, elaborate vacations, etc. I have custom made firearms. To each his own. Get what you want that is of value and importance to YOU. Value is more important than cost.

Nope. Love seeing people shoot well and talking about what they're using, how they practice etc.

What is irksome is being told, "My budget factory rifle shoots just as good as any custom" without any proof. Factory rifles are more accurate than ever but if they offered the fit, feel, performance and consistent accuracy of a semi-custom they'd be charging semi custom prices. There certainly are factory rifles that shoot great, but a factory rifle that shoots like a custom is the exception, not the rule.

Must admit, there are factory rifles that have narrowed the gap in performance, but they usually have a price to reflect it.
Well said, sir! A man who is secure in his own skin!

My last build-
Terminus Apollo 1175.00
Bartlein Bbl Blank 374.00
AG Comp Stock 878.00
Hawkins Metal 198.00
AI Mag. 72.00
TT Special 189.00
NF Ultra Lite Rings 170.00
Burris XTIII. 1079.00
Bottle Type H Cerakote 34.00
Pro Bed 2000. 27.00
$4196
Labor to cut chamber, thread, bed, cerakote, assemble was done by myself.

For what its worth, the value to me in a custom is just that, customize to my exact specs for the purpose intended. Factory rifles wont always offer the preferred twist, a different freebore, pull length on stock, bottom metal choices etc. With that being said, I have factory Rem. VLS, Sendero, VSSF, a few MK IV W'Bee, rifles (late 90's early 2000's year models) that will shoot a .7" group at 200 yds (I wont test at 100yds). The above custom build and my others will do the same or better, but on a more consistent basis, have excellent feel, and I can go triple the number of shots between cleanings before accuracy degraded. The Weatherby does better than the Remingtons between cleanings. For the most part, its really just what it is worth to you personally.

8 grand on a rifle build seems way over the top. I had one built with glass for like $4000. That was also not a recent build though. This was 10 years ago. I priced out a build last year and it was $4800 with glass.

I've spent more than my wife knows about, but I'm sure she can take a pretty good guess.

My first true custom is at the gunsmith right now and with everything but a new bipod I'm right at $5,500, give or take a $100 or so.

Curtis action
NF NX8 scope and light weight rings
Brux barrel
LRH stock
TT special
HH M5 DBM and mag
YHM QD muzzle brake (already owned)
Plus gunsmith

Pelican style case (won at RMEF dinner). You could call that free or $1,000. Just depends on how you look at it.

The sad part is, now I am looking at a lot of my factory rifles thinking "what do I want to have done to those?"

Some of us our glass is 4800$ so real easy to get into 9-10k

You only got one "WOW" with that post! Simply because the forum will not allow multiple "WOW's"! memtb
Here is the pic of my Smith and I finishing the build with the scope mounting. It is a 375 EnABELR.

I take "bottom feeder" bolt guns and make them into consistent long range (to 800yds) tack shooters with minimal outlay. Typically a stock change (Boyd's), good reliable glass (Arken), and most important is to build Good cartridges that the rifle likes best. Typical cost is under $1k not counting the cartridge components or loading tooling. YMMV.

I've got full blown custom rifles too that I've spent $6k+ on, but I built built my complete 280 AI for just under $1300 which includes smith work and glass, just wheeling and dealing.

-Rem 700 blueprinted action W/PT&G one piece bolt
-TriggerTech Special trigger
-Callahan SpeedLock
-Holland Recoil Lug
-PT&G Bottom Metal
-Brux #4 Fluted barrel
-McMillan Hunter Stock
-Hawkins LR Hybrid Rings/Bases
-Leupold VX-5HD 3-15x44

I had a custom rifle built. I enjoy shooting long distance. Being said I have well into the $$$$$ for just the rifle+ $3,000.+ For optic. I would not hunt with it because it's to heavy to carry all day. But it is a good investment for what I love to do.
