Question for you all.... Is a Cooper action considered a Remington clone or based off a Remington? I have a Cooper Jackson in 30-06 that I was wanting to maybe have a new carbon barrel and possibly put it in a XLR chassis just to try something new. There is no Cooper on the list for those stocks and after doing several searches, I can't seem to get a concrete answer. Heck, maybe it's not even worth the time and money.

Thanks for everyone's time

Hi Medic,

Long time Cooper user here. Cooper actions are their own unique design. Unfortunately, do to the relatively low number produced, the after market world is pretty limited. Scope bases being the only item I'm aware of. With that said, there may be something out there I have not come across. With the model 52 and model 92, there were Gen 1 and Gen 2 actions that had some differences (bolt stop, triggers, bolt configuration etc).

Good luck,

Nice rifles and most are shooters but you're kind of limited to what you can get. I was happy that the later rifles had aftermarket triggers installed. Jewell, Timney, Trigger Tech.

The good news if you ever want to send it down the road, you most likely won't have an issue since getting a Montana built Cooper is only available second hand now.

I have two. My Jackson hunter in 30-06 and my Backcountry in 6.5-284. They both shoot way better than I can, that's for sure. I just wanted to try something new. I guess I'm just going to have to buck up and pay for a custom (used of course) or try and build one myself. I have my eye on a few in the classifieds but I'm sure the sellers are getting fed up with my questions and indecisiveness.
