Finally after 5 long years of waiting to draw a tag for the 4th season in unit 25, this guy came out fighting with 2 other smaller bucks for all the does in the hay field. After waiting for a clear shot for about 10 minutes he offered a broadside shot at just over 350 yards. The 140 vld from my 6.5wsm hit him just behind the shoulder and he stumbled for about 10 yards before hitting the dirt. The coolest thing was that after he hit the ground the other deer in the field scattered about 50 yards or so after the shot, then the 3 x 3 that he chased away went right up to him to make sure he was done for, then went right out to the 8 does and herded them up and pushed them to the other end of the field. He owes me tough!!!!!!!

Nice buck! I've got a 6.5 RSAUM and it too is a deadly little cartridge on deer...as you've proven.

Congratulations. Nice looking buck.
Just curious did you have a complete pass thru with the Berger 140?

Bullet went in and just destroyed the heart & 1/2 of the lungs and did not come out...........JRY

Never checked. Maybe when he gets back from taxidermist I will throw a tape on it just to see. He is only about 18" - 20" wide, but the rack is thick and the front pair are both 7" long so it might score higher than I even think. As is always the case I saw a bigger buck the last day-last evening of the season while we were waiting to see if any cow elk came out to the alfalfa field before dark. I did get a couple of shots off with the camera.............JR

He will probably be gone before we draw any more deer tags for there. It has taken us all at least 4 if not 5 points for the 4th season in 25. Oh well by then his sons will be ready to be on my wall !!..................JR
