My dad and i are planning to start a little local gun cleaning business for shotguns, and bolt action rifles of 22 cal - 338 cal. Thoughts on this? What would you pay for your shotgun to be cleaned?? What would you pay for your rifle bore to be cleaned? I am thinking of offering three options, option one is for your shotgun BORE ONLY to be cleaned of all powder/plastic fouling, i am thinking $15?? option two would be for your rifle BORE ONLY to be cleaned of powder and copper fouling, thinking $25?? Option three would be for the rifle BORE to be cleaned of powder and copper fouling, bolt and action to be cleaned of dirt and grime and carbon fouling, maybe $35?? Do you guys think i would be charging to much?? to little?? Not trying to advertise but just trying to get an idea on the prices and options so i hope i am not breaking any rules. Let me know what you think, and yes, i know i am going to get some badly fouled rifles.:rolleyes: gun)

I think that your prices are fine but you may have a hard time getting business. You probably wont ever get any business from people that shoot long range and know a good bit about guns. I wouldnt let anyone that I knew or didnt know clean my rifles because I am very meticulous about the cleaning.

So that leaves the local yocals that probably clean their gun once every three years if at all. Most of them put crap solvent down their barrel and get the carbon out but not much copper. They see the patches not coming out black anymore and call it good and put their gun up. You would be hard pressed to prove to them that you are doing a better job than they are at cleaning unless you did a free trial for them to show them.

Sorry to be a downer about it but that is just how I see it.

I would post a couple adds around our grocery store and i would see if i could get one of my local spots for getting supplies to be a pick up/drop off point and maybe give a couple of their employees a free trial so they can help convince others that come into their store to check out my services. I dont expect to get much business from LR shooters.

I think it will be tough sledding to make a go of it. It wiill take a lot of dirty guns to subsidize your LRH addiction!!!

Now - that being said - the price of getting going is right (pretty much the cost of solvent and time). Give it a run and see what you learn and who you meet. You may end up doing something totally different based on how it goes. Shooting is clearly your passion and if you can make a living doing something related you are a lucky man. Your first few ideas might very well flop, but so what.

Go read the Cabela's story and get fired up to get something going. Just don't forget your lowly LRH friends when you are big-time!

Good luck!

Another option, advertise when seasons ending. For instance, duck hunters clean at the end of the season and do a thorough job then. Maybe you could get a bunch of
Guns then and make a go at it!!

Thanks Brandon, i will give it a go and see whats comes. I am mainly just doing this to off set some of my DADS (he made me put that in there lol) cost FOR MY LRH addiction. BTW i should be able to get some break-in on my 284 win done on friday so i will ship you a couple cases once i am done.
