went out last eveing after red fox, picked up the ruger no 1 in 220 swift with reloaded 55 grn vmax home loads plus scope mounted lightforce lamp , off into hills of west wales i went alone ,went to the one farm i set up buy a small tree and played the waiting game the weather is hot for this time of year 28 d c its 10 d c higher than it should be, it went dark so i went to the lamp and started calling with the hand call nothing at all ,so i give up and went to another farm 5 miles down the road, out of the truck ,put the lamp on in the field 400 yards away at the top of the hill was a fox eyes cant shoot at the top of the hill ,wait till he at the bottom of the hill, picked up the 220 swift into the field down on the bipod ready, a few lip calls and the fox started coming in slowly when he get /s to the bottom of hill 300 yards away and he having it ,then wham point blank almost hit me and my gun over a another fox had came in without me seeing it got to one knee i shouted stop and he did ,let the 55 grn v max go bang one red fox down, at the very long range of 18 yards think i will take the 410 next time lol , a nice 25 pound dog fox a good night hunt, time to head off home atb steve
