Christmas build challenge

We might get a barrel company or two to donate if we ask them as well as other action builders. Rich might be the best one to ask since it's his idea to start with.

Ya, actions are probably the biggest need. Only one scope so far too. Once the holidays settle down, maybe we can vote on what we have as far as candidates and at least get the one build started. From there, I guess we can see where we are and decide whether or not to build any additional? I think we should probably consider shutting off nominations too and go with the 4 we have. What do you guys think?

I will leave it up to you Rich. Since I nominated someone I don't want anyone to think I was trying to be unfair with current or potential nominations.

..........Once the holidays settle down...........

My holiday schedule was pretty hit and miss, and thought I should check in.

A couple of thoughts:

I agree with getting started, no need to lose momentum, and if we can be successful once, we can always do it again. Successful meaning every one feels good about participating. I think we have some good candidates, but would like to see a couple more. Just as a way of affirming our message got out.

Long Range Shooting requires a system, the SHOT show is coming, for me that often means upgrading a perfectly good piece of equipment. This years obvious choice for me is my Kestrel. Finally there is an Iphone compatible model that at first look should fit in my system better. The trade in value of my "old" model is like $80. The stand and vane don't fit the larger newer model either.

I've thought of putting this in the collective pot, either as an outright addition, or have a small auction, and whatever it raises goes to support the project.

Feedback?

That would be a nice addition for sure. Maybe people will get back on the forum between now and new years.....Rich

I have the nominee list ready to send out (thanks much to NYSHUNTER) but I still need several PERSONAL e-mail addresses. As soon as I get those, we can vote and get at least one build started (probably 2). We have 16 potential donors for either/or parts, services, or cash. Our inventory right now is:

ACTIONS:
1 700 LA
1 700 SA
1 unamed

BARRELS:
1 Rock 6.5 26" SENDERO 8 twist (perfect for 1 of the Shermans
1 270 Howa take off
other take off options not named

STOCKS:
RUSSO CUSTOM
Savage VLP take off
B&C Medalist take off for 700 LA

TRIGGERS:
1 Timney

SCOPES:
1 Vortex PST 4x16

Bases and Rings:
2 offers??

Brakes:
2 offers

BRASS:
6.5 SS or 6.5 Sherman or larger
6.5/284 Lapua

BULLETS:
2 6.5 offers
1 270 offer

DIES:
1 Sherman or Sherman Short

CASH:
5 offers

ADDITIONAL:
2 Rock Chucker presses
1 Kestrel

You can all look through and see pretty much where we stand. With the cash, we could pick up a few things that we might need, but it would be nice if we could round up another scope, and maybe another custom barrel.
We could also use bottom metal, another trigger, etc., but again, cash could take care of some of this too. We have several gunsmiths to potentially do the work.
Congratulations to ALL of you. I knew the generosity would show up on this forum and I can not thank you enough for your support in this!!.......Rich
p.s. when you send personal e-mails with your info; please include your forum "handle" so I know who you are.

Rich,

Now that's a list.. I got some calls out looking who has a barrel or anything they can donate. I should know by the end of the weekend and email you what comes up..

Where, and when should we send stuff?

Let's get the voting done and it might give us a little better idea about what to build for who. Once we do that, we can select the right smith and send everything to him for assembly (with his permission):D He can then ship to the person who nominated the recipient, thru an ffl dealer, or directly to the recipient, thru the dealer if necessary.....Rich

Fantastic idea Rich ,

Since I can't send powder from Alaska I'll donate 500 bullets for the project ! All new unopened boxes
Let me know when and where to send 'em !
