Anyone ever try something like this to get your head up a bit more on the stock so you don't consistently shoot under targets?

Of course. Your eye is the rear sight of a shotgun so it must be precisely placed to center the pattern. As you know, stock alterations are usually used for this purpose, but a cheek pad works if you just need to raise the POI.
