Cannot get reticle/target to focus together

About 15m, for dry firing practice indoors (longest I can find indoors), scope is an S&B 5-25

Parallax set on 15m...and reticle/diopter was focus on a blue sky and again on the wall at high power.

If I set power at 10x or greater, reticle is nice/clear against my paper wall target. But target is blurry. If I dial down the power to 5, target is closer to in focus, but reticle is so small against it i cant read mils (and or it starts to blur). Seems strange, but I'm sure I'm missing something. It's like adjusting the power is also messing with the parallax, instead of keeping it focued with parallax at 15m, as I dial up the power to see reticle better, the target gets blurry.

Is there a trick for setting up for short range indoors to be able to get target and reticle in focus? I'm for from an optical expert.

Thanks fellas

Just start over. Max power, infinity on bright wall of some sort. Diopter ring all the way in, small adjustments, eyes closed then eyes open. Just don't look to long on each adjustment as your eyes will automatically focus lol

Diopter for me doesnt ever get blurry, I can start all the way in, and look away as I go out. Reticle seems to grow slightly, but does not really ever get out of focus for me.

Yes, the min setting on the parallax is 15m

On 15m,I can some in to 5x and the target is crystal clear...the reticle is entirely too small and maybe be seeing double at that point. As I run the zoom out, the target slowly goes out of focus as the reticle become more clear. At 20x, and 15m, reticle is great, crystal clear, target us impossibly blurry

I'd be happy at 10x (where I can see the reticle clearly) if I could keep them both in focus at that close range.

Just trying to dry fire, makes it difficult when I cant see the reticle clearly to see if I'm pulling one

Is the scope a first focal plane or second focal plane? My understanding is that in FFP scopes the reticle size changes with the magnification. The higher the magnification the larger the reticle appears and vice versa.

I have a couple scopes that as the magnification is changed the focus (parallax) changes too.

Any scope with a large zoom range for example 10x such as the March 2.5-25x52 needs to have a parallax adjustment to keep the image in focus and parallax free. Scopes with a 3x zoom such as 3-9x42mm generally don't have a parallax/focus knob. It is fully explained in detail in the article posted at the beginning of this section;
