Hi guys, I need a little help and advise. Im working on a load for my custom built 243. I have narrowed my projectile to 100gr SGK.
col 2.669
Fed brass 2.045 lenth
Cci lr primer
54.4 gr of water
Imr4350.
Barrel 26 in 1-9.25
My issue is I found a good node at 40.3 gr but its slower than I like. It seems I have a node starting at 42 gr but that is my book max. If someone could run this through quick load I would sure appreciate it. I need to know if I can move up with this or is there another powder I should concider. Rifle groups .557 at 40.3 and .655 at 42
Thanks for any help.

If you have a good node at 40.3, try working around 41.5 and see what you get. While developing and working working with the OCW process, Dan Newberry found that nodes tend to be about 3% apart. Your 40.3 x 1.03 = 41.5. If this works you won't have to go over book max. Additionally, that point to ~ 42.7/42.8 for the next node.

FWIW,

Your seeing same thing I hit with H4350 and 95 Nosler Ballistic tip.

Best load for me is
2.665 OAL
39 grains H4350
2850fps in 20" barrel

IMR4350 is hard to beat and never discount .5 - .6 groups with hunting bullet.

In your 26 inch barrel you should see optimum barrel times at 1.329ms and 1.19ms.

Your 40.3 load is on the 1.329ms node but you may not quite make it to the 1.19ms which would be at 44.1 grain node (3108fps) per Quickload above. Use chrono to help see if you can get there (3100) with less powder.

You didn't state what speed your at? With a 26" barrel you can get to 3,000fps with good temp stabilty with H4831SC if you want to test.

Thank you for the replies. I usually do not run a crony when doing OCW test. It keeps from chasing velocity instead of accuracy. It looks like reloader 26 will be a good powder to give a go. It seems to have the speed and correct barrel time. I will pick some up this week and give it a try. Thanks again for taking the time to run through quick load for me. I'll follow up with my results.

With every caliber I have shot RL26 it performed best with magnum primer, even in the smaller charge weights, like it craves fire. FWIW
