I have a ballistics precision chrono it reads seemingly inconsistent on reading rifles but very close on arrows.
Example today i shot my 6.5cm testing new powder RE26. Gun is Bergara HMR 22" barrel. Conditions sunny, 64, little wind. But first i shot some factory winchester long range 142gr accubonds it showed speeds from 2508 (1st shot from clean barrel) to 2548, 2605, 2601, 2577, 2572 with 6 shots 1st group from clean barrel 1.5'' 2nd .75moa. Cleaned barrel again, shot a fowler not thru chrono, Then shot handloads RE26 47.5 avg. 3 rds 2754, 2832, 2811, 1moa, 48gr 2855, 2813, 2830, 1.125moa, 48.5gr 2841, 2844, 2822, .445moa. 49gr 2838, 2859. 2818, .75moa, no pressure signs on any of these. When i test xbow arrows its very close 396,396,395 like that. Reloads were once fired hornady brass, 135gr classic hunter bergers, CCI LR primers, RE26 powder, all trimmed to length, 2.810COAL, light roll crimp and FL sized, Digital measured power. But it always shows these spreads that seem extreme to me on high velocity, with any gun. I'm 10' from muzzle but have tried 15' and still get wide spreads. Also didn't see the increase in speed I expected from each .5 gr increment, although there was some increase, seems others typically see a smoother 30fps gain avg. So I know there are more accurate chronos, but does anyone else have wild jumps like these with your chronos? I don't really think these spreads it shows are as big as it shows, long range groups don't show it. Also it's always like this with any handloads or factory loads. The good thing is when I take my avg speed its usually very close to how the bullet tracks long range. I may have to make minor validation corrections but its usually slight when I take the avg. Just see so many here show ES of 10 or less fps, makes me scratch my head lol. The great thing about it all is this RE26 is crazy hot over 200fps faster than most factory loads. Really extends our effective range.
