Butch’s bore shine?

If you have a custom lapped barrel you are not breaking in the barrel just the throat. The chamber throat is not lapped and usually will have tooling marks that need to break in and will also strip copper off bullets and copper foul the barrel. That is why you see the shoot a few clean regimen. Once the barrel cleans easily and you are not seeing any copper your gtg.

I would call and ask why there's a barrel breaking procedure and what value I'm getting out of it. I think there's an opportunity for the company to be honest with you and tell you it adds no value….or that they require it to warranty it, but since it does nothing, how would they know??

There are plenty of high-end barrel manufacturers that recommend breaking in a new bbl. Even if it's just "voodo", it sure can't hurt. I do a brief barrel break in on all my custom barrels but I don't stress over it. Use whatever bore solvent that you have on hand and just take your time.

If you don't do it, you'll always wonder if you should have.
