FFP scopes, when on their lowest power settings, can be very difficult to acquire the crosshairs. This can be an issue when in a dark canopy or for snap shots on a dark animal. The "ring of fire" is a circle etched into the reticle that allows for quick acquisition. Just put the circle where you want the shot to go for snap shots and your good. Probably the best hunting scope Bushnell ever made.
