Bushing Size Results ?

Working with a new set of Redding bushing dies and ran into an interesting problem. Loaded round neck diameter is a consistent .313". I used a .311" Redding TN bushing in the Type S die to resize some once fired Peterson cases. The brass necks measured a consistent .308" when removed from the die. FWIW, I was using Imperial sizing wax.

I rechecked everything and measured with a different caliper but got the same results. While it is difficult to measure the inside diameter of a bushing with a caliper, I do get a measurement of .308", give or take. Has anyone else had a similar experience with a bushing? It appears that the bushing is mismarked.

I think your bushing is stamped wrong. .003 is quite a big difference.

I went up and sized a case, Peterson 7prc brass , Whidden neck bushing die, Whidden.311 bushing, no expander ball. .03185 case has 5 firings on it, annealed each time it's loaded

Fired brass comes in at .315", but I'm not sure how the fired dimensions would make any difference.

I would expect a sized neck to measure at the bushing size or slightly more considering a bit of spring back.

I read a thread that Alex wheeler initiated and he talked about neck tension and its effects. Sizing down more then .008" in one step, may make neck OD smaller then bushing marking.

Your fired brass @ .315" sized with a .311" bushing should work.
Do double check Outside Diameter measurements of fired & sized brass necks.

Test. The hole in the die that the neck passes thru may be undersize??
Take a fired brass that measures .315" Run into die with bushing & expander removed.
Has neck diameter changed?

If you remove the bushing, the neck will make no contact with the die.

I suspect the bushing is actually a .308" and not a .311, as indicated. I've got another bushing ordered. These TN bushing sure have gotten expensive.
