What is the best bullet to shoot in a Ruger 7mm mark II . For distances around 500 yds. Hunting whitetail deer. I want accuracy but do not want to lose knockdown power. Any suggestions?

Phillip, I would say a 7mm with any bullet has plenty of KO for any deer at 500yds. Some may shoot flatter than others and perform better at farther ranges though.

Just a moose hunters opinion though. Len, Dave and others have the real life based oppinions your probably hoping for.

The answer to your question depends so much on how you feel a bullet should perform...rapid vs controlled expansion, etc. Probably easier to answer it well if you carefully describe how you want it to perform.

I outfitted in New Mexico for seven years and saw the 7mm Rem Mag perform quite nicely on Large Muleys in the 500 yd plus range, with a variety of bullets. If I remember correctly, I believe that most of the hunters were using 150g Nosler Partitions.
