What is the weight of your stock ?
I have 2 Brown Precision stocks , 1 Rem. 700 LA and 1 Wby. MK-V , both graphite and purchased in late 1980's . Each of them weigh 20 ounces . They soak up recoil very well from the Rem. 7mm Rem.Mag. , and .300 Wby. Mag.

Sounds like you have the "Pounder" model

26 ounces is still a very lightweight stock , great for building a backpack rifle .
