Brand new to hunting (Texas/Oregon)

Hey Guys, I just was gifted a decade old winchester 30-06 and would like to start hunting/long range shooting. I'm mostly interested in deer/hogs. Figured this would be a good spot to learn about what kind of optics I need, how far I can really shoot the 30-06 accurately, etc. Thanks for the welcome!
