Bone Head Mistake

They are about 15 places apart on the burn chart, with H1000 being the slower of the two. Personally, I'm probably not dumping 4 lbs of powder without trying it. I wouldn't use it for load development, but I'd load maybe 10 rounds, and compare the MV on those rounds to my previous known loads. I bet they won't be more than 5-10 fps off. If so, I use them for practice or varmit loads. If they are more than 10-15 fps, or any signs of pressure, then I dump it.

Ps, my bad, was the half full container 1 lb or 8 lbs? I assumed it was 8 lbs. If 1 lb, that makes if a bit different. I'd still test it and use it for practice, yotes, etc.
It's just about half a 1 pound can. If I need to toss it I will.

I probably would set it aside and use it for practice loads or mix well and load up 4-5 rounds and compare them to the regular load. There likely will be very little if any difference..

I've had that happen with shotgun powder. Made no difference I could see over the chrono. Not quite the same as rifle but figured I'd mention it so you would know you're not alone.

If you poured a total of 180 Gr. of the wrong powder from 3 rounds into 1/2 bottle of the other powder, that's a ratio of about 175 to 9. Meaning that for every round you load of H1000 there will be about 3 grains of H4831 mixed in. My guess is, it could affect the load about 50~100 FPS. I did a similar thing once. Just tossed it. Wasn't worth the bullets and range time to mess with it.

Your guess is WAY WRONG.
All you guys believing a few grains of powder will influence a load are not even close to reality. Duplex loads, Superformance powder is one, has to have LARGE amounts of EACH type to work, not 3 grains mixed in.
Even over the Pressure Trace, variation between lots is more than mixing a tiny amount of another powder….

Cheers.
