Black Chrome?

I bought an old Custom FN rifle with a Mauser action earlier this week. I have never seen bluing like this gun has. It's deep black. I'm thinking it's black chrome. Anyone know of any 196-'s guns with black chrome?

But that burled fish-eyed stock is incredible.....

Did you ever confirm if this is indeed chambered for .30 Gibbs?

Yes. It is stamped on the barrel but had to remove the stock to see.
