Best Bedding Kit?

Thanks for the tips. Seems it may be better to buy separate ingredients than a kit.
Saw a Brownells youtube on acraglas gel and it seems to be pretty runny. Seems like it would easily get into places not intended. Is the devcon putty less runny? Also, they trimmed off the excess at about the 4 hour mark with a razor blade, and cleaned out the magazine well. What would be the best time to trim the devcon?
They were using 'modeling clay', whatever that is, to fill various holes in the action. Anybody have suggestions on what to use?
A commentator suggested taping off the bottom, front and sides of the lug. Seems like taping the bottom may push the action up too far. Any ideas?
He also used the Brownells silicone spray release. Is that a good one or are there better options?
He taped the BBL and the stock. Would blue painter's tape work for the stock?

The area under the recoil lug in the stock needs to be relieved so that the tape doesn't affect where the action sits in the stock. Purpose of the tape is to create a small air gap where you don't want contact with the lug, and to provide enough clearance that removing the action from the stock doesn't damage the bedding.

You'll likely get about the same number of release preferences as bedding compound preferences. I'm in the paste wax camp because that is how I was taught to do bedding jobs.

Modeling clay is very, very similar to Play-doh.

Downside is cleaning this second option out of the stock might be more difficult.

I use Devcon on synthetic stocks and match rifles and Acraglass ( spelling? The Brownell's stuff) on wooden hunting stocks for no other reason than it's easy to stain with what ever color you want. I still use the same can of Johnson Paste wax I've had for about a hundred years, as release agent. I do like to pillar bed wooden stocks and even syn stocks if they don't have an aluminum bedding block.

I have used and still use Devcon 10110, Marine Tex and Pro Bed 2000, and Kiwi polish for release. Out of the three, Devcon has the consistency I prefer. They all get the job done. For a one time deal, the Pro Bed kit with release would be my choice.

How do you make sure you get the release agent into all the possible nooks and crannies? Also, do you put the release agents on prior to the putty or after?

Understanding the likely result of missing an area makes it pretty easy to be diligent and thorough.

I use an acid brush just to make sure. Several coats of release agent ensures a good release.
I have use many different kinds of release agents but always come back to Johnsons floor wax. I bought a large can back in the 1980's and still got the same can. A little goes a long way
