What is the berger 30 cal 230 grain OTM bullet designed for?

Also, what speeds are you getting with this bullet.

I am getting 2900fps from a 30-378 WBY.

Thanks

The 230 OTM was designed to retain a high BC yet be more tolerant of seating depth than VLDs.

As such, it may fit mag boxes when VLDs must be seated long for best accuracy.

It's categorized as a tactical bullet and hasn't been tested specifically for hunting by Berger.

Some here have used them for hunting with great success.

I've been getting 2670 with H1000 and 2700 with Retumbo from my 300WM.

I have a BAT actioned 1000 yard rifle in 300 WBY I use in IBS 1K comp. I also use it for LR deer hunting out of my cabin. I have 7 BBLs for this gun. One, a 30 inch Spencer, never quite made the cut for comp. I have alwasy used RL 25 in all of my 300 WBY.

Anyway, I figured I would use this for hunting, so I started tinkering again. Tryed Retumbo. Anyway with 210 vld's, 90 gr gave me slightly stiff bolt and cratered primers, 89 gave me cratered primers only, and 88 gave me no PSI signs at all....except one. THE CHRONOGRAPH. Silly silly fast. chronowed several different days. Drops were actually LESS than what they should have been. Chrono said 3220 fps.....adjusting to 3270 to make the actual drops work out with both my NF and Seirra I6 programs and real world to 1400 yards. Accuracy...my 1000 yard, 5shot groups were maybe two inches bigger than my best match tube. I shot lots of 4 and 5 inch, five shot groups with my other tubes in compitition. I figure the THREE shot groups to be the same size at 1K with this tube...and again.....SILLY FAST. Retumbo really woke this tube up!!

Now Berger comes out with the 215 and 230 Hybrid...tinkerites set in yet again. 215's didn't shoot, but the 230 is as good as the 210 was. I am at 87 gr Retumbo and showing 3175 on the chrono...no PSI signs (other than the chrono reading). been out to 1100 on paper and 1365 on steel. Looks like the number to make the comeups work on my scope is 3210. I also use the SHOOTER program and it agrees with my numbers.

SILLY FAST!!!! Actually, this setup is EXATLY the reason I don't own a 338. Unless it was on a Chytec case, I would be gaining nothing. A 300 gr BERGER at 2800 out of an Edge or Lapua doesn't hold up against this setup on deer sized critters at ELR. Again, just my opinion. I figured that this setup SAVED me about 5K on a 338 build. Plus the extra stuff I don't need to buy!!lightbulb
