Met a guy at the Range that just got a new Benelli R1 Auto 300 Win Mag..................He was shooting Remington Core-Lok 180gr bullets and was getting 3"groups. His Rifle had a new Leupold Var 3L 4.5-14.................

I suggested that he try other types of Factory ammunition...........................He had the BDC Turret set up with the Remington Ammunition Ballistics..........

What advice would you suggest to get his rifle shooting 1.5...............

He said that he purchased it for Long Range shooting.

Well 3" at a hundred is complete garbage, but you didn't mention the distance. The problem here is the semi auto portion of the rifle. He has to have bullets loaded to a finite length. Bolt actions usually allow for some wiggle room. I'd suggest a thorough cleaning, check/measure the chamber specs, and try some other ammo-assuming this guy has good shooting technique. If he has a long throat, might want to look at barnes bullets because they like to jump.

In my BAR in 300WM the ammo makes a huge difference with accuracy. I would start by trying as many different types of ammo as possible and more expensive does not always equal better. If this fails is reloading an option?

As far as I could see he had sand bags in the front and a Rabbit ear rear bag........... I have no Idea if he was jerking the trigger. He shot 30 rounds three shot groups and almost all were at 3" @100yds.

I did suggest he try Barnes Vortex and for him to try other tpyes of ammo..........its just that he had Leupold do a cutom turret for him based on the Remington Core Lok ammo............................

I did mention that if 3" is the best he can do dont be doing any 500 yard shots......................

I have him email address and will be kept posted.................
