What does it mean when when a barrel is throated for high bc bullets? Does this mean that there is free bore before the rifling starts?

Custom throating for a high bc bullet can be different lengths depending on the bullet your wanting your chamber throated for. It does create freebore and is normally set up so the boat tail junction is at the neck / junction of the case. The amount of freebore will vary depending on the bullet type and weight. I typically have the customer supply a new virgin piece of brass with the bullet they intend to shoot seated to the depth they'd like. Making sure if it's intended to run through a magazine that the length they have seated will work. I use the dummy round as a gauge for cutting the throat depth. This only works if the throat ground into the chamber reamer is shorter than the throat your wanting.
