I keep reading that some calibers are "barrel burners". I can see how a competition shooter would burn a barrel, just as a race driver burns more brakes and tires in a day than I do in several years. How does that relate to me, shooting my 30-06 just enough to be ready for deer season and decompress after a day amongst the hoplophobes? I've taken an interest in the 6.5mm's (6.5-06, 6.5-284, .264 Win.Mag), so am I really looking at having to rebarrel every few years?
