Barnes LRX success...

I follow the bullet success/failure threads with a great amount of interest. I'm not one who has chosen sides in the Barnes/Berger debate because I use both of them depending on the task at hand. I will admit that Barnes get the majority of use for me because I hunt in the South where shots are close. Most of my shots are inside of 300 yards so I elected to try the new LRX from Barnes. When shooting a Barnes I like to drop in weight and increase velocity, a combination that for me has been extremely deadly.
I'm shooting a M700 Sendero in 7mm RM that I had trued and rebarreled by Benchmark (based on info I acquired on this forum) using the Barnes 145LRX running about 3100 fps. I've taken two deer with the LRX to this point with outstanding results. The first was a doe from only about 85 yards, the shot entered behind the near side shoulder and exited through the the off side shoulder due to the angle which she was standing. There was a caliber size hole going in and a quarter size exit, the internals were liquified and the off shoulder a mass of bone frag, DRT!
The deer pictured here was from about 125 yards standing above me on a hill slightly quartering towards my direction, the exit as you can see is slightly back and high due to the angle, the entrance was right behind the near side shoulder. As you can see a quarter size exit again with massive internal damage. He traveled about 75 yards on the shot and piled up, the point of impact left a large blood spray with bits of lung tissue in the blood.
I have learned a ton about the shooting performance world from this site and will admit that based on the awesome topics that Broz brings to the table I have started playing with the Berger's in my longe range sessions and will certainly give them a try while hunting in the near future. I'm not endorsing for/against any one brand of bullet, just sharing my experiences!

I would like to see a few pics of that buck! About an hour ago I ordered some 7mm 145 lrx and accubond 150 LR. If someone could post some load info for both on the 280ai that would help greatly!

Thanks, he's definitely a nice one! QDM certainly has paid off at our little farm.

My thinking for the LRX was 1) I like Barnes bullets and have had good success with other versions on the past. 2) the LRX is supposed to open up at lower velocities encountered in long range shooting, my line of thinking that at high velocity this should be exaggerated and all the more effective as I'm not to worried about them failing from high velocity impact (solid copper design). So far that has worked like a charm. It doesn't hurt that they group in the .3's and .4's out of my rifle!

I purchased a huskemaw 3-12x last year that I'm running on that setup, my plan this spring is to acquire the info to have a turret set for the 145 LRX out to 600yds and the Berger 168 to 1k.

or maybe try a few 180's and see how they shoot. .659 BC is nice at 1000 plus if there is any wind. And there is always a little wind it seems.

Thanks Broz, I will give the 180's a try. I remember seeing a company that would sell just a few bullets for testing, going to try and look them up. I'm working on the 190's and 210's in my 300WM based on the results you posted with the heavier bullets in that caliber.

Thanks Broz, I will give the 180's a try. I remember seeing a company that would sell just a few bullets for testing, going to try and look them up. I'm working on the 190's and 210's in my 300WM based on the results you posted with the heavier bullets in that caliber.

I got away from the 190's but still load the 210s in some 300 wins. They are very hard to get but when they are available again don't pass on any 215's for that 300win. They are the best thing I have loaded in the 300 wins for a long time.

That is a beautiful buck. What a great trophy!!

That figures! I can get the 190's locally on a fairly normal basis, 210's and 215's not so much. Did you move away from the 190's for performance reasons on game or just want a higher BC?

Thanks for the compliment on the deer, he is extra special for me because he was killed on our family farm. I work my butt off throughout the year providing food plots and exercise strict QDM. We have owned the place for five years and the deer have progressively improved every year.

Only used the 190's on some deer 500 yards and under. They were pretty explosive from my 300 Weatherby but they all were dead. They would probably be fine for deer in a 300 win. Just not my first choice.

But if going long a BC in the .6's is nice
