6'-3'' Is a BIG 16 yr old kid. Id say that puts him just about the right size for packin out meat. Not jut his either. Put him to work and he'll feel like he earned it. Besides it will add more to the hunting story he'll tell his buddies.
Best of luck to you and your younger hunters.

Yea hes my son
its a preaty easy trip to the trucks but the kids dont know where things are so we have a little harder route pick out for them to haul out anything they shoot
Should be lots of fun

where you take that picture at?
Sure looks like the country we hunt in.
Hells canyon just above kirkwood on the idaho side

Hells Canyon (Oregon side) near Copperfield, and Halfway. That pic is 1/2ay up the side of Mcgraw Canyon about parallel with Spring Creek. STEEP everywhere in Hells Canyon. I wouldnt have it any other way either. Too many folks hunt the flatland. I like to earn it, and have less people. Lots of work, but a sweeter trophy when you succeed

We hunt the idaho side, north end of hells canyon. Around Iron phone junction and heavens gate.
Just got back from checking the bait.
Niether site has been hit.
We cooked bear crack at both sites on friday brought in one bear to site #1
But the guy hunting that one got his gun hung up on his radio and scared it off.
Saturday he scared one off the site(first and only hit).
while walking into our site saturday Morning we saw one about 150 yards out leaving fast.
Cooked up a bunch more crack and came home to let things stew for a few more days.

Ya, with the fruit being just about as good as its gonna get the bears arent gonna be in any hurry at all to leave the bottoms of the draws near the river. Easy pickens right now.
Im guessing the action will pick up at your bait site in about 3 weeks. But you know how it is with the fruit and the bears along the snake. Its simmilar to the salmon runns in Alaska. The bears just arent gonna give up an easy free meal, no matter how good the bear crack recipit, as long as its natural food source is plentifull.
Give it a week or two, and the fruit will be dimennishing, and youll be swamped in bear poo all around your bait site. Well, thats my guess anyway. IMO, Thats not nesicarily a bad thing. It gives em another week or two to thicken up the furr for a better rug! haha
Good luck

Yea I agree thats why we cam back early will go back up in a few days and check it again
two other problems as well
Seeing more hound hunters than I can ever rember.
This is the second year for a new early bow elk season in my unit
Both of these equal lots more people on the hill.
My other problem this year is time.
My duaghter who is my biggest hunting buddy said my wife could not shot a deer
so with the challange thrown down my wife put in for a controlled hunt and drew the tag so Im getting her ready for a deer opening day

Spent the week end up on the sites again
one was lightly hit on the 8th and hit hard the night of the 11th
the second site has not seen any action.
the one hitting the site apears to be a small bear
I guessing its being pushed up the mountain ahead of the bigger bears out of the good feeding grounds. hopefully the bigger ones will show soon.
Also saw a nice 3 point white tail and listened to at least threes bulls bulgle for two days
