I've been an industrial mechanic for 29 years and I just got layed off from a great job. The 16 of us made between 95k and 164k. Four of us had to go. I'll be 50 next week and things look bleak for decent jobs around here.
I have no kids at home and Lisa is willing to follow me anywhere so my options are wide open.
I'm seriously considering a North Slope job in Alaska. Lisa and I are headed up to Anchorage on the 13th so I can take the North Slope Training Cooperative and the SulferDioxide courses. I figure this will give me a leg up on other applicants if I have my card already. You have to have these courses completed before going anywhere unescorted on the North Slope.
So here's my deal, I'm begging for any help you can give me. Any leads, any advice, any contacts, any jobs, anything you have that can help me get a job with any of the North Slope companys.
Thanks in advance, Chuck.

Thanks Silvertip. I've been looking at Achorage Daily sunday section but not the others. I've also checked AlexSys, Kakivik Jobs, Opti Staffing and Cragslist.
Bp, Conoco, Parker Drilling, Haliburton, ASRC, Udelhoven, Ch2mHill are hard to get in with and none will hire without the NSTC card. I know two guys that work for Udelhoven but they need only electricions right now. My son-in-law just got back from Middle East and they have a hard time getting US contract workers to go over. He talked to two guys in Dubai that pump portapotties and they started at 180k plus room and board. Maybe I'll look into a contract job over there. I'd rather work in Alaska though
