Hi, I am planning my first DIY black bear hunt in Arizona. I need some expertise in a specific area to hunt next week :eek: Currenly areas full tags for females are 29 and 30A. Areas 6A, 22 south and 23 south have no tags left.

You are better off in 27 right now. They are still in the prickly pears until the acorns come on strong. Prickly pears are about 5000-5400'. Good areas are along the lower Blue and Middle section of Eagle creek.
Plenty up higher but much harder to find.

Currently in Alpine and hunting 27. I have been over the 7000' mark. I will check out lower elevations. Are you familiar with Smith canyon area?

Yes, I hunted elk there one year. Didn't think of it as a bear areas. Remember with bears, it all about the groceries and being off the beaten path. Either find acorns, juniper berries or jump down to the prickly pears.

Well after 13 days I was unsuccessful at finding a bear. I spent about 7 days in unit 27. Might head back to unit 27 next week.
